About Chess
A complete implementation of chess with no rules left out. You play White and move first. Castling, en passant and pawn promotion all work, and promotion asks which piece you want rather than assuming a queen. Draws are detected properly: stalemate, the fifty-move rule, threefold repetition and insufficient material.
Four bot strengths are available, from an opponent that punishes only obvious mistakes up to one that calculates several moves deep. Tap a piece to see its legal squares highlighted, which makes the game playable on a phone without misdrops.
The part most free chess sites do not give you is the review. After the game, every move you played is graded against the best available move, labelled from best down to blunder, with a plain-English explanation of what the better move accomplished and what your move cost.

- 3.Checkmate the enemy king to win; a king with no legal move and no check is a stalemate draw.
- 4.Draws also happen by the fifty-move rule, threefold repetition and insufficient material.

How to win at Chess
- Develop toward the centre, then castle
- Knights and bishops belong on squares that fight for the middle four squares, and your king belongs behind a wall of unmoved pawns. Games at club level are decided overwhelmingly by whose king got safe first.
- Count the defenders before you take
- Before any capture, count how many of your pieces attack the square and how many of theirs defend it. Most lost material comes from capturing into a square the opponent guards one more time than you attack it.
- Do not chase the early queen sortie
- An opponent who brings the queen out on move three is offering you free development. Attack her with pieces that improve their own position as they do it, rather than chasing with pawns that weaken your king.
- In the endgame, activate the king
- Once the queens are gone the king becomes a strong attacking piece. Walking it toward the centre is usually the single most valuable thing you can do, and it is the habit that separates players who convert winning endings from players who draw them.

- No. The board loads and plays immediately without signing in.
